After taking an M.F.A. course entitled The Publishing Process, I have decided that it is not in my best interest to post drafts of stories online. As such, I have put all my story drafts into storage so I will always have them; essays from high school and early college still remain, as I have no intention to publish them. They aren't publishable.
If and when I get something published in the future, I will be sure to post about it in my journal, and I may, after a period of time, at least post excerpts of the final published stories, if not the whole of the piece. If you don't know about copyright, here's a little explanation of my reasoning: When one publishes a short story, essay, poem, etc., most literary journals ask for First North American Serial Rights. This means that the journal gets to publish the work first, and, afterwards, the author gets to do whatever he/she wants with it, even put it online.
Since I plan on submitting to journals in the future, I thought this was the because course of action. I guess you could say this is the first step in future-proofing my online presence and really, seriously, considering getting published.
